LED backlight is still insufficient

Although the advantages of LED backlighting are obvious, there are still areas for improvement. The manufacturing and packaging technology of LEDs, especially large-size backlights, is not mature enough compared to CCFLs, which is reflected in the fact that the technical requirements for LEDs used in backlights by LED manufacturers are not very clear, especially domestic manufacturers. In terms of packaging, LED packaging is more suitable for lighting, but not very suitable for the requirements of the backlight source on the mixing distance.

CCFL backlight has always been in the dominant position of backlight source. Wang Gang said that from medium-sized display products such as notebooks and monitors to large-sized products such as LCD TVs, CCFL backlights have always had the largest share of backlight products. In terms of large-size backlight, CCFL backlight occupies most of the market because of its lower cost and mature technology. At the same time, major manufacturers have also added new technologies to CCFL backlight, adding vitality to it, such as scanning backlight, dynamic backlight and so on. The addition of new technology improves the quality of liquid crystal display and reduces power consumption.

Although the development of LED backlight is promising, the technology of LED light source is not perfect at this stage. Problems such as cost, light efficiency, and brightness uniformity control still require technical improvements. Wang Gang believes that LED is a point light source, which is different from CCFL, which is a line light source. LEDs used in backlights need to pay special attention to the treatment of light uniformity. In order to emphasize light uniformity, the luminous brightness characteristics of each LED also require consistency in selection. In addition, if the life of a certain LED ends first, it will affect the light uniformity, so it must be ensured that all LEDs have longevity functions. Such strict selection will make the cost of LED backlight rise.

However, the good development potential of LED technology makes the industry spare no effort to overcome the above problems. With the continuous improvement of LED light source technology, more and more liquid crystal display products have adopted LED technology.
